Hans Fraikin


With 30 years in the media and motion picture industry, Fraikin has worked in a dozen production hubs around the world, including Los Angeles, Paris, Tokyo, Seoul, Jakarta, Montreal, and Abu Dhabi. Over this period, he has developed solid relationships with all the Hollywood and Streaming Studios.

Until recently, Fraikin was the Head of the Abu Dhabi Film Commission. His mandate to restructure the Commission into a world-class production service entity. In this role, Fraikin generated an average 140% year-to-year growth with Hollywood blockbusters such as Dune and Mission Impossible, Bollywood blockbusters such as Vikram Vedha and Bloody Daddy, and streaming hits such as MGM’s Last Light and Netflix’s The Fastest.

Previous to the UAE, Fraikin was the founding CEO and Commissioner of the Quebec Film and Television Council (QFTC) with a decree to ensure the province’s economic and industrial development in the production and digital media spaces, with specific responsibilities for international film, television and animation productions and coproductions. He spearheaded the creation of various sectorial Hubs, such as the Visual-Effects Cluster, the Dubbing Hub, the Digital Media Lab, and Tax Credit Compliance.

Under his 9-year stewardship the QFTC generated over $1.5 billion in inward investment from over 100 feature films, television series and animations, with titles such as 300, X-Men, RED, Smurfs, Riddick, Benjamin Button, Get Smart, Beastly and Journey to the Center of the Earth 3-D. Fraikin created partnerships with all six Hollywood majors (Warner Bros, Disney, Universal, Fox, Paramount and Sony) and several mini-majors such as Lionsgate, Skydance Media, Summit Entertainment and Lakeshore.

Prior to this, Fraikin was the Director of International Operations for Telefilm Canada, the Canadian Film funding Agency, where he forged a reputation as a global expert in International Official Coproduction Treaties, policy and funding, structuring Coproductions between Canada, and various partners such as the UK, France, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Spain, China, India, Morocco, and Jordan.

Fraikin commenced his career with Twentieth Century Fox, distributing and marketing over 100 feature films during his 10-year tenure, including Titanic, Braveheart, Mrs. Doubtfire, Speed, Power Rangers, Romeo + Juliet, the Star Wars trilogy, and Fox’s first animated feature Anastasia.
Fraikin was a 2-term Board member of the AFCI (Association of Film Commissioners International).
His Industry awards include Twentieth Century Fox’s Best Worldwide Marketing Campaign for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and an Industry Box Office Record for ID4: Independence Day.
He is a long-term guest-lecturer at the HEC (Haute Études Commerciales) MBA program and is regularly interviewed by various global trade and media outlets.
