Hana Alomair


Hana Alomair, is currently the Creative Director at MBC STUDIOS, the production arm of MBC GROUP, and the Chairperson of the Cinema Association in Saudi Arabia.

Alomair is also a prominent Saudi director,  writer, filmmaker, and film critic. She served as head writer for several TV series writing workshops. Her screenplay Hadaf earned the Silver Palm Tree Award for Best Screenplay at the Saudi Film Competition in 2008. Her documentary Beyond Words was showcased at the Gulf Film Festival (2009) and competed in the Muscat Film Festival (2010). Her second film, The Complaint, was selected for the main competition at Morocco’s Tissa Film Festival for Asian and African Films (2014) and won the Golden Palm Tree Award for Best Short Fiction Film at the Saudi Film Competition (2015). In 2016, she co-wrote the short film Peddlers with Hind Alfahhad, winning the Best Screenplay Award at the King Fahad Center Short Film Competition. She is also the author of The Samurai of Japanese Cinema: Akira Kurosawa and the playwright of Qat Oqat (2017).

In 2018, Alomair directed two episodes of a primetime TV show for the Saudi Channel. Her short film Swan Song (2019) received the Golden Palm Tree Award for Best Actor at the Saudi Film Festival and was screened at the Berlin Film Festival Market, the Sharm El-Sheikh Asian Film Festival, and the Göteborg Arab Film Festival. She also co-wrote and directed Netflix’s first Saudi original series, Whispers.

As the screenwriter of Sharshaf, Alomair secured a $500,000 production grant from the Red Sea Lodge (2020). A prominent voice in the industry, she has served as a jury member for multiple prestigious film festivals.
